“Your mindset is constantly evolving depending on what you’re exposed to, so make sure you’re consuming quality content that reaffirms you’re a total badass!” – Rose Radford

This post was written by a friend on social media and I thought how nicely it aligned to my values whilst also alluding to some of the mental health concerns linked to social media. This is something I have had to consider whilst gearing up for this challenge.

I honestly sway from day to day as to whether or not I am a fan of social media or not. Sometimes I think it is incredible: friends and family of mine have managed to build successful lives and careers around it, and I love how much more I connect with people through it. But, on the other hand, I know the damage it can cause to people’s lives, reputations and general wellbeing.

Personally, I still can’t decide if it is a healthy habit of mine, or even if I am truly in control when I use it. Like I said, I love the increased amount of connections I make; in the last year I can’t tell you how influential it has been on my social life. I have made so many new friends and been able to maintain them through this system.  But I’m not really in control, sometimes I pick up my phone without thinking and before I know it I’ve waisted 30 minutes and somehow feel super depressed.

I was very close to removing it completely for my life and then decided that it would be too fundamental a part of this fundraising activity. I vow to be more in control though, to realise when something is not making me feel good, to block, delete or unfollow content that is unhealthy for me. ‘Quality content’ as Rose states; things that make you feel bad-ass rather than bad.
